Flying Scythe Monkey is a web site devoted to my musings, ramblings and thoughts about Massively Multiplayer Online game design (MMO design).

In particular I am a system designer for MMOs, which means I deal with the following -

  • Resolution Systems - How the players interact with the world. In particular, how the game determines success/failure and the magnitude of that success and failure.

  • Economic Systems - MMOs are filled with people, and people are by nature economic animals. Economic theory can be used to inform and guide the design of MMO business games.

The site is still a work in progress. So until I figure out how to get a blog up, you will just have to deal with my postings.

The first postings are  based on a roundtable on economics and business game design that I hosted at the 2005 and 2006 GDC. I also have a generalized resolution system that I have been playing with for the last few years.

After that I will get up a posting on why I think people play these games, some of my solutions for economic systems in MMOs, and other things that come to mind.

If you want to get a hold of me, I can be reached at samuel.lewis@turner.com.
